This has been fixed, which means you can purposefully force your ebook to have certain text on certain pages. That said, Pages takes a shortcut here with its text styling; if you look at the code of your resulting export, all text styles come out as various CSS classes for the paragraph tag. Other fun stuff you can do: You can style text with small caps, use superscript or subscript, add character spacing, and indent your text; lists now render properly though they still use custom CSS to emulate lists rather than the HTML li and ul list tags ; tables render as selectable tables, rather than images, and can be color-customized; floating images will render as static images, rather than disappearing altogether; and if you export a document that has tracked changes pending, it automatically accepts all changes when rendering.

Floating images no longer disappear on export; instead, they lock down in place though the resulting code doesn't properly wrap images.

Things that still need work At least now there's a warning when you've added too many images; previously, Pages wouldn't alert you if your file was too large. I would much rather have all images in the book shrunk to lower resolution than have them disappear entirely.

When in doubt, Pages converts elements to images: Despite the fact that the CSS stylings exist for adding borders, if you attempt to apply any to your images or inserted text, Pages flattens them onto the element in the export process, making a new image.

You can do the same in a Pages document, but none of it translates when you export your ebook. Custom fonts, in particular, would be a nice improvement. Pages uses arbitrary CSS classes to style everything from paragraphs to tables. Should you make an ebook in Pages 5.

Step 2: Set Up a Template You can create an ebook from a blank document or from any of the free Pages templates available in the template chooser that pops up when you open the app. But it helps to start out with one of the templates designed specifically for ebooks. Already started with a basic blank document and want to switch to a new template?

To confirm, open the Document inspector. Under the Document tab, the checkbox for Document Body appears unselected.

If you had a word processing document open, the Document Body box would appear selected. You can insert text, images, videos, tables, charts, and shapes using the appropriate toolbar buttons. Thus images, shapes, and other objects will always appear inline.

And in that case, to ensure that an object stays inline, first select it and open the Arrange tab of the Format inspector. This process is where page layout templates differ from word processing ones.

In word processing templates, adding pages equals inserting a blank page after the cursor location.
